Pink Floyd was an English rock band formed by the  students Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright in London 1965. Barrett, seen as the founder and musical genius of Pink Floyd, was replaced by David Gilmour in 1967 due to his  mental state. They are known for their psychedelic ,extended compositions and sonic experimentation with philosophical lyrics becoming the leading band of the progressive rock genre. Pink Floyd were one of the first bands who set an incredibly high standard in live performances making use of innovative sound effects and quadraphonic speaker systems accompanied by unbelievable visual effects helping them to become very popular. They became one of the most successful , commercial and influential rock bands of all time, having sold over 250 million albums worldwide.
